{"id":121473,"date":"2022-03-29T21:01:21","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T03:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bemorewithless.com\/?p=121473"},"modified":"2024-09-13T17:30:50","modified_gmt":"2024-09-13T23:30:50","slug":"what-to-wear-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bemorewithless.com\/what-to-wear-now\/","title":{"rendered":"What To Wear: One Question Will Help You Decide"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/bemorewithless.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/capsule-wardrobe-question.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-127041\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you feel confused by fashion advice or your closet is full of clothes you don&#8217;t wear, you probably haven&#8217;t been asking the one question that will help you know what to wear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I think about the clothing choices I&#8217;ve made over years, it makes my head spin.My head is spinning not because of what I chose to wear, but why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>My clothing choices were swayed by &#8230;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Advertising and marketing campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pressure to &#8220;dress for success&#8221; a.k.a. what will other people think of me.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every article about what to wear for &#8230; your body type, your age, your season.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal style (I never had it. I don&#8217;t have it now. I really don&#8217;t know what that means.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What was flattering or what other people said was flattering which was just a fancy way of saying, &#8220;That makes you look smaller than you are.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-one-question-you-need-to-ask-before-deciding-what-to-wear\">The one question you need to ask before deciding what to wear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I know this question seems so simple, but it&#8217;s one we often overlook. Instead of starting with this one question we ask &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What will people think?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is this age appropriate?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have I worn this too many times this week?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is this flattering?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong data-redactor-tag=\"strong\" data-verified=\"redactor\">Let&#8217;s start with this one question instead &#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em data-redactor-tag=\"em\">What do I want to wear?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Groundbreaking right? This one question overrides the others and really, we can dismiss them&nbsp;altogether. Aside from work uniforms and very few other exceptions, wear whatever you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might sound like an inconsequential decision, but when you decide to wear what you want and that feels good, you&#8217;ll start giving yourself permission to do what you want to do and live how you want to live without wondering what other people will think, if it&#8217;s age appropriate or flattering. Those things aren&#8217;t real anymore for clothing choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asking and answering this question is going to add more time, energy and delight to your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this sounds hard or even impossible, I know how you feel. Sometimes I still catch myself asking the old questions. We&#8217;ve been conditioned for a really long time to ask the old questions so it might be a struggle to ask the new one. Practice and go easy on yourself. This is how we learn and grow and thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, quick recap &#8230; Wear whatever you want (except for <a href=\"https:\/\/bemorewithless.com\/please-stop-wearing-this\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">these 3 things<\/a>). See how it feels. Apply to the rest of your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em>P.S.
